Houston Executive Coaching Certification
Coaching does not function as a consultant (who provides business solutions or outcomes), nor does it function as a therapist, since it does not provide advice. Mentors aren’t coaches either. In order to help you solve problems, they ask clarifying questions. Although executive coaches offer confidentiality and serve as sounding boards, they are not there to fix hiring mistakes or make incompetent employees competent.
Executive coaches conduct comprehensive behavioral assessments of their clients and interview their superiors, peers, and direct reports to determine their strengths and weaknesses. They determine the type of coaching techniques they should employ based on the information they gather from their clients.
Coaches and clients usually communicate regularly (often weekly) after a comprehensive initial communication period. For six months to a year after a coaching engagement concludes, some coaches follow up with their clients to gauge their progress.
Depending on the situation, executive coaches may have good or bad backgrounds. Companies shouldn’t limit their search to coaches with specific experience in their fields since it’s impossible to predict which coach will have a good rapport with a particular client. Despite the fact that executive coaches are not recognized as professionals, anyone can claim to be one. The market weeds out unqualified individuals. However, they can cause considerable damage and waste a great deal of time before they can be removed.
Many executive coaches have business backgrounds, and many are former executives. Most executive coaches are still working professionals, although some are retired executives. A good executive coach may have an academic or arts background as well as a STEM background. It is more likely that coaches with a business background will be successful since they have a deeper understanding of business operations and what makes an executive successful.
It makes sense for companies looking for executive coaches to find coaches with industry experience. Someone with experience in the tech industry may be of greater benefit to a tech executive, for example. It may be beneficial, however, in some cases, to select an executive coach from multiple industries in order to facilitate the necessary intellectual “cross-pollination”.
