In addition to an academic or arts background, a successful executive coach may also have a STEM background. Coaches with business backgrounds are more likely to be successful, since they have a deeper understanding of business operations.
When looking for executive coaches, companies should look for coaches who have industry experience. It may be more beneficial for a tech executive, for example, to hire someone with tech industry experience. For intellectual “cross-pollination”, however, choosing an executive coach from multiple industries may be advantageous in some cases.
