Salt Lake City Executive Coaching Certification
Coaching does not operate as a consultant (who provides business solutions or outcomes), nor does it function as a therapist, since it does not render advice. Coaching isn’t mentoring either. They ask clarifying questions in order to assist you with solving problems. Executive coaches provide confidentiality and serve as sounding boards, but they are not there to fix hiring mistakes or improve the performance of incompetent employees.
In order to determine a client’s strengths and weaknesses, executive coaches conduct comprehensive behavioral assessments and interview their superiors, peers, and direct reports. Based on the information they gather from their clients, they determine the type of coaching techniques to use.
After a comprehensive initial communication period, coaches and clients usually communicate regularly (often weekly). Some coaches follow up with their clients six months to a year after a coaching engagement ends.
Executive coaches may have good or not-so-good backgrounds, depending on the situation. Since it’s impossible to predict which coach will have a positive rapport with a particular client, companies shouldn’t limit their searches to coaches with specific experience in their fields. In spite of the fact that executive coaches are not recognized as professionals, anyone can claim to be one. Unqualified individuals are weeded out by the market. They can, however, cause substantial damage and waste a lot of time before they can be removed.
Former executives and business professionals are often executive coaches. Although some executive coaches are retired executives, most are still working professionals. Educated in the arts or in the sciences, a skilled executive coach may also have a background in the sciences. As coaches with a business background have a deeper understanding of business operations and what makes an executive successful, they are more likely to be successful.
Coaching with industry experience makes sense for companies looking for executive coaches. The experience of someone in the tech industry may be of significant value to a tech executive, for instance. To facilitate intellectual “cross-pollination”, selecting a coach from multiple industries may be beneficial in some cases.
